All CARIFESTA X venues except the National Stadium now Ticket Free
THE CARIFESTA Secretariat yesterday announced that all CARIFESTA X performance venues except for the National Stadium will not require a ticket.
Persons are, however, advised that entry to events will be on a first come, first served basis.
This decision took effect from yesterday. - Guyana Chronicle

It seems like Guyanese living in Guyana can actually get to see and partake in some of the Carifesta festivities. But the question is how many will? According to our sources living in Guyana, Carifesta flames went up in smoke on Friday night where many across the nation and other parts of the Caribbean switched off their television sets in the midst of the proceedings. Moreover, it seems like the Guyana Chronicle and Stabroek News are at odds with each other. Both prints are running opposite stories. Guyana Chronicle staying on the positive side and Stabroek News on the negative side. What’s going on? That’s the question. I’ve watch a few of the videos on YouTube and Stabroek news, and the scenes were as ghetto as ever. If what I saw was not a display of disorganization then, I don’t know what is. But Guyana again is not ready to host any type of regional event at all and I hope other Caribbean nations have noticed the same too. What was Frank Anthony thinking when he thought he support an event of such magnitude? I do hope for the remainder of Carifesta, working Guyanese actually get to attend some of these events because is a time for all Guyanese to enjoy, not the privileged few.

The Shameful Truth about Guyana Public Hospitals

July 9, 2008

To those of you who are not living in Guyana please do not believe all that you read in the Newspapers. I am living in Berbice and it’s a different experience living here from what the media and politicians portray.

It is a notorious fact that doctors in Guyana pilfer medications from the Public Hospitals and sell it to patients for thousands of dollars in profits at their own private clinics. When a patient is critical and admitted to the hospital there are no medications. The same doctor will refer you to his private clinic where he administered the hospital’s drug and charge a large sum; those who cannot afford it are left to die in public institutions. This misuse by health personnel and their privileged access to pharmaceuticals has become a very sensitive issue in Guyana. Read more

Recent Caricom Heads Discussion - Wire tapping legislation

April 7, 2008

The focus of the recent Caricom heads meeting was the anti-crime measures to be initiated in the recent surge of crime in the Caribbean with particular highlight of the recent incidents that occurred in Guyana (the Lusignan and Bartica massacre). Numerous ideas were put forth but a key item of discussion is wire tapping. It seems most Caricom members participate in wire tapping however it is not properly regulated. The current legislation of most Caricom members does not cover or properly regulate the use of wire tapping by the local authority. Because of the lack of legislation, most information obtained from wire tapping cannot be used as evidence in a court of law. Read more
