Italy: Photos from walking in History

October 1, 2008

These photos were given to us by two friends of ours who had the pleasure of visiting Italy recently. Italy is a wonderful country. It is place where virgin olive oil, real homemade pastas, savoring vinos, organized crime, lots of sunshine, rich architecture and the romantic allure awaits. Italy is a country full of interesting things and people and has a variety for the casual traveler and the educated traveler. There is always something to do in Italy without reason to feel bored. In the north of Italy next to the Alps and the landscapes of the Po river, many cultural gems and highly developed industrial cities fascinate the inquisitive eye. Italy is just there to be discovered. Mount Vesuvius stands unshaken and the ashed city of Pompey stands to remind us all of the tremendous force and everlasting effects of nature. So take a look!

How much I insanely loved the Dali exhibit at MoMA

September 19, 2008

Well, I’m sure those of you who are familiar with Dali’s work usually fawn over the persistence of time and other pieces, which I still love too. But this collection which I was surprised had a lot of work spanning his art life. MOMA even played the video collaboration he did with Walt Disney which was an animation that warped into each of Dali’s famous paintings. I didn’t get to take pictures of the video and or the paintings that I am madly in love with, because we were not permitted to. But I snuck and took what I could, so enjoy. Read more

Cuba: Photos from Havana

September 2, 2008

There is nowhere in the world like Havana. From the resplendent Spanish colonial architecture of the Old Town, to the spectacular dilapidation of Havana Centro, a city of stalwart survivors and masterful musicians rocks indefatigably to the syncopated beat of the rumba. Havana remains characterful, safe, and packed with a plethora of interesting museums.
In 1514 conquistador Panfilo de Narvaez founded a settlement named after a local Indian chief, San Cristobal de Habana. The settlement had to be moved a number of times because of mosquito infestations, but settled on the west side of Havana bay in 1519.
The Baiganchoka Team would like thank some wonderful friends in the Cayman Islands for lending us these photoes of Cuba.

Most of there individuals were part of the ceremonial walk prior to being scattered as the day proceeded. This event was a wonderful dispay of our caribbean/west Indian culture as we have adapted to the northern lifestyle. This event is the largest Caribbean festival that occurs anually in the North. It is nice to see that on that on those few days ofthe year, from mid July to the begining of august, caribbeanites come together to celeberate each other with songs, dance, and artistry that is just simply amazing when all put together. The Face of Poverty in Guyana

February 15, 2008

According the United Nations and the World Health Organization Guyana is listed as a third world country or to be politically correct, a developing nation. And rightly so, however, no one in my opinion seems to care. Family and friends living in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and the Caribbean do not know of the struggles and poverty we are all living in. Foreign currencies have a high exchange rate in Guyana, but the money does not have a greater value because of the high cost of living we have been experiencing for years. Read more

Jamaica

February 12, 2008

Blue waters, colossal mountains, and all inclusive hotel chains grace the shore as you exit Sangster’s international airport. Montego Bay is a vacation hotspot for visitors all around the globe. Warmed by year round sunshine, cool Caribbean breezes and swaying palm trees, Montego Bay welcomes the most distressed of souls and heals them from the chaotic North American/European lifestyle. But my intention is not to bestow accolade on the municipality of Montego Bay but to decipher the economic constitution and quality of life for populace of Montego Bay and Jamaica as a whole and make some comparison to that of living for middle class American in the United States.
