Religion: An Introspective Analysis

August 4, 2008

I know some of you who are reading this and maybe wondering if I’m an atheist, does it matter? Actually I’m not but I don’t categorize myself in any religion because I don’t believe in things that are just supposed to be believed in because others say so. I abide by my morals and try to be as honest and loving as a normal being. I put out into the world what I would like to receive and I’m never ashamed of the mistakes or situations I get into because others may talk about it and call it “sinful”. Seriously, enjoy your life… because then you’d be one miserable person paranoid about what everyone else is thinking about. I focused on religion this time but there are many topics that make people feel the same way, coercing others to believe what “they” do, in the name if “God” (or whatever you call your imminent power). People go to wars and horrific things and use the name of “God” to make others do the same. I wonder if no one ever thought about the notion of “God” would we still be the society we are today. Would there still be chaos in the mix – underhandedly lying to others how one religion/belief is the ‘right one’ because “religion is supposed to be a beautiful thing”? My grandfather used to tell me, we have 5 fingers and neither of them are the same length… just as our fingers, each one of us are different with our own beliefs, which we should respect. Read more

My concern with Propaganda Press and the ideal of freedom with responsibility or more so, lack thereof.

April 4, 2008

It astounds me as a blogger and an advocate for freedom of speech when I stumble upon sites like Propaganda Press that serves a community that has limited shared voice and depends on independent initiatives to collaborate in shared voice. In short, I must say that Propaganda Press is genuinely doing a disservice to the West Indian community… Read more

Kris Gounden gets an odd visit from NYC Building Inspector

April 3, 2008

Today at 1:30pm a building inspector was walking around in my yard again. He claimed that the property was “leaning”, my steps were unsafe, and my deck was 36 on center. I asked him “why” he was here. He said the property has a stop work order. I asked him again why he was here. He said “I can be here as long as I want, do anything anywhere on this property (I’m the NYC building dept!). Read more

Democrat vs. Democrat

April 1, 2008

Although the two presidential hopefuls of the Democratic party and their campaigns/supporters have been trying to gouge one another’s eye out in the past few weeks, it seems evident to me that the McCain camp would go after these issues if they weren’t brought up now, and it would have a much greater impact if the Republicans brought it up. Update: Kris Gounden speaks on the current situation regarding his case on being victimized in Howard Beach

March 26, 2008

The Queens District Attorney called me last Monday to let me know the grand jury was unable to prosecute due to lack of information. Humm, what does this mean (I said). “It’s over!”. These were the same people that called me several times to accept a deal to get rid of this case. Interesting note, Councilman Addabbo and Frank Singh went on a local West Indian radio station (January 2008) to state that my case will be dismissed by the grand jury. Read more

Seeing Europe: A trip worth taking

March 25, 2008

A little while back or so I had the occasion of visiting a few places in Europe. I started off in Barcelona, Spain, and worked my way to Florence then Rome, Italy. After Rome it was off to Corsica, which is a beautiful Island in the Mediterranean then to the South of France, then Monaco then back to Positano Italy and lastly Paris to see the Eiffel Tower. What trip to Europe would be complete if you missed the Eiffel Towel? So Paris was a must see. This was all done in less then a week and a half. I traveled with a bunch of college buddies that were either vacationing from work or didn’t have jobs at all. Given the limited money we had, we traveled by ferry and with our American passports getting through at the ports of entry were a breeze. I do no recommend traveling through Europe with a Guyanese, Trinidadian, Jamaican or Haitian passport even if you are an American resident. Before you do, contact the consulate of the intended country of visit. A visa will definitely be required for entry to be granted. We traveled like nomads the 15 of us, with our backpacks on our backs and a tiny traveling bag for the essentials. We moved as a well-oiled machine. Read more
