China 2008 Milk-poisoning Incident Is Scaring Everyone.

October 25, 2008

On 17 September 2008, Health Minister Chen Zhu stated that tainted milk formula ‘ MELAMINE’ had sickened more than 6,200 children, and more than 1,300 newborns remain hospitalised with 158 suffering from acute kidney failure. On 23 September 2008, 54,000 children were reported to be sick and 4 had died.

Melamine is an industrial chemical used in the production of melawares, countertops, resisant boards, home decorations etc and should not be eaten. The chemical melamine is introduced into to milk in order to cause it to appear to have a higher protein content and also help to conceal its fraudulent dilution with water. Businesses are using melamine for financial gains which would help lower their capitalization. This issue has raised concerns about food safety and political corruption in China.

When Melamine is digested, it remains inside the kidney and forms into stones and blocking the tubes. However, the pain will be eminent and the person cannot urinate and that causes the kidney to swell. Although surgery can remove the stones, it will cause irreversibly kidney damage. It can lead to loss of kidney function and will require kidney dialysis or even lead to death due to uremia. It is more serious in babies and children because their kidney is very small and they drink a lot of milk powder. If you have infants at home change to breast milk or other substitutes.

During September 2007- September 2008, cats and dogs died suddenly also due to melamine that was found in their pet food[Some affected brands: Menu foods, Sunshine Mills, Nestle Purina Pet Care, Del Monte, Royal Canin, Natural Balance Pet Food].Animal studies have shown that ingestion of melamine may lead to kidney stones, cancer or reproductive damage.

Food that contains dairy milk products should be avoided. [Sanlu Milk Powder, Nestle, Coffee-mate, Klim, Milo, Maxwell House, Unilever, Lotte, Pizza Hut, Chesdale, Starbucks Coffee, M & M, KFC, Lipton, Cadbury, Snickers, Dove, etc]. Please try to avoid the above foods.
The World Health Organisation referred to this incident as one of the largest food safety events it has had to deal with in recent years.

I wonder what the government of China is doing, if the story is true, then it is worst than terrorist attack. People/company involved should be stopped before they poisonned the whole world

Got something to say?
