SCHENECTADY — Less than a week after ruling a Guyanese woman’s death a homicide, detectives have charged her husband in connection with the killing.
Yetraj Mangar, 60, will be arraigned today on second-degree murder charges, according to officer Kevin Green. His court appearance will also come on the same day his wife is buried. Earlier in the week he was among those who attended a memorial service for the woman.
It was not immediately clear where Mangar was arrested or how detectives cracked the case.
Police responded to the couple’s first-floor apartment at 402 Division St. on Saturday and found Jaiwanti Mangar, 56, dead. Green said at the time that was found around 2:45 p.m. An autopsy later determined that Jaiwanti died as a result of “blunt force trauma to the head,” Green said.
It was not immediately clear if a weapon was recovered.
Mangar’s death was almost immediately ruled a homicide, and a forensics team scoured the apartment for hours Saturday.
Neighbors said the Mangars lived in the apartment with their adult son, and that there were no outward signs of trouble.
Family members were unavailable for comment late Thursday as a wake for Jaiwanti Mangar were held.
Yetraj Mangar remained in the custody of Schenectady Police last night and will be arraigned in Schenectady Criminal Court.
