Carifesta X: The Guyanese Government needs to up their game

August 8, 2008

An editorial posted on www.stabroeknews.com by Wesley Kirton notes that the press releases for Carifesta X posted on the Carifesta website are poorly written a consists of a plethora of grammatical errors. I agree. The point of Wesley’s note was that this substandard display of public relations material only serves to negatively impact the community that is the recipient of the information. The simple message it sends is that our English is off and we don’t care and that might have been ok of we were located in Russia or China. But that not the case. Secondly, display of pubic information creates a permanent image in the mind of an outsider looking who is trying while we are trying to create a global image and atmosphere in Guyana.

Additionally, the Carifesta website seams to be something coming out of the 1980s or early 1990s. It is like tube socks…just not right for today’s techno savvy world. Moreover, there are no definitive schedules posted on the site, just the venues and types of events. Hint!!! For planning purposes, the Minister of culture should be on top of this. Don’t these government officials in Guyana believe in presentation? Where is there dan Public Relations Dept. Oh Wait! They don’t believe in that, Why is it that they just can get it right. It does not take a scientist to run a country of less than a million people and declining. Hire the right people and the results will follow. Man the website looks like the starship from the early Star Wars episodes. I could not find the time slots for the events and Carifesta is only two weeks away. What is the Minister with the longest title history doing about this? I guess the government of Guyana does not understand the power of web if used to its’ full potential. I don’t know what to expect from Carifesta, but our cameras will be there. So expect some content after the closing ceremony.
