A Real Con Artist – Akon
April 19, 2008
Akon, Senegalese born musical artist has fabricated stories about his criminal past that helped him to build up his street credibility.
The Smoking Gun is a website that posts legal documents and records on daily basis. The intent is to bring to the public information that is shocking and outrageous. The Smoking Gun reported in April 2008 that much of Akon purported criminal and incarceration history has been dramatically embellished.
As noted by Akon headed in multiple settings, he headed a car theft ring and spent more than 4yrs in prison. However, the smoking guns stated that the artist had 6arrests; the only felony was for gun possession and for that charge he got off on 3 yrs probation. In 1998 he was jailed for possession of a stolen BMW and was imprisoned for few months and not years. All charges was cleared- it’s a far cry from the tale he tells about being imprisoned.
Akon drew criticism for having onstage sex [dry humping] with Danah Alleyne, a fifteen-year-old preacher’s daughter at club Zen, Port of Spain on April 12th, 2007. Akon staged a fake dance-off contest for girls to win a trip to Africa. Danah got on stage to compete in a dance when she was dry- humped for one minute by the artist and whose crew film and later uploaded to the Internet.
On June 3rd, 2007at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill New York, a concert attendee threw on object towards Akon on stage. He was furious and asked security to bring the 15 yrs old boy on stage. He pulled the kid from the crowd, hoisted him across his shoulders and tossed him back into the crowd where he fell and hit a girl who suffered a concussion. Akon is being charged for endangering the welfare of a minor, misdemeanor, second-degree harassment and violation. He is schedule to appear in court for his arraignment on the two charges.
In a newly released song “sorry, blame it on me” Akon apologized to the young girl for the incident and his mother/ wives for hurting them.
What I do not understand is why would a pastor let his daughter go out that late and dressed like a prostitute? The club claimed that they have 18 yrs and over rule clearly posted, so how did she get in? Most of Akon music is about sex and drugs, so what did Danah expected on stage? A hand shakes perhaps?
Millions of children listen to Akon songs, watch his videos and have his ring tones. Most of his songs mention sex, doing drugs, murders and theft. His videos are uncensored. Parents this is what you want for your children? Very often in those songs women are mentioned in a degrading manner as nothing more that pleasurable objects.

akon is alaughing all the way to the bank
it’s the american way no?
get in where you fit in?
How so Kim?
A Million Little Pieces by James Frey anyone?
Excellent book btw - read it if you could get past the issue of it being partially fabricated.
Apparently Akon is a wrestler too… - that was unnecessary.
who cares if he fabricated stories about his criminal past. who wants to glorify prison? what is street cred? the only street cred akon wants is wall street. and i wish him the best of luck in his business ventures, and he has a few.
make more money akon, fabricate more and make more money. i love america.
baby millions
Baby million, you seemed pleased about Akon lying. Why do people have to lie?Why can’t you be yourself for once and tell the truth? Thousands of children look up to Akon as their role model, would you want that for your kids too? The examples you set, that is what your kids will follow, clearly everything is about money for you, remember, dont be to arrogant and boastful-life is not always about the money and luxuries.
role models. my mother and my father are role models. akon is an entertainer. i will not teach my children to look at entertainers as role models. if they choose to look at him or any entertainers as such, so be it. if he lied, he lied. thats not my business. it bears no signifcance in my life.
akon has made money, and i happy for anybody that achieves success in what they do. when someone achieves success, the pattern is to bash the person. or find any imperfection and ridicule it. and if being happy for individuals success is boastful or arrogant. then i am what you say.
baby millions
What’s your take on acheiving success at the expense of others, baby millions?
let me say this first. do you have a job?
i think it was the girls fault cuz she decide to go on the stage, i dunno why ppl r blamin akon, atleast im writing from what i know
I know that the girl should not be there, dresses like that way pass her curfew. but why should akon behave in such manner? who gave him the right to do so? and why should we be silent about it? apr would u care to comment?
