Haiti: The high cost of food causes shut down in the capital of Port-au-Prince.

April 15, 2008

Well, Haiti has had its’ share of problems in the past and continues but now the problem has worsen. The high cost of staple foods has instigated riots and have been on going for the past two weeks. But who can blame the people. According to Times, the cost of staple foods has risen some 50% in Haiti since last year, a crushing trend in a country where three-quarters of the population lives on less than $2 a day. The U.N.’s World Food Program says it has received only 13% of the $96 million it needs to help Haiti’s 10 million people in 2008 — barely enough to support its operations there through the end of this month. Port- au _Prince, Haiti (AP) — Haiti’s Parliament has voted to dismiss Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis after deadly protests over rising food prices. (CNN).

Well the bottom line that the situation in Haiti will be experienced in many more countries in the short future. While the cost of energy continously climbs and oil executives pocket billions in profits, the the world is paying, It is highly impossible for people who live on 2 to 10 US dollars per day will enjoy a meaningful existence. Unfortunately, the most of the world lives on this amount. I cnnnot contemplate our existence in the nest 20 years or so. Sad to say but we are quckly destroying ourselves because of greed. It seems that wealthy countries like the U.S have enough to wage a war but enough for the more important things in life, like making sure all human beings are fed, Now the U.S owes India large sums of borrowed money because the U.S has already spent billions that it cannot afford on a non-sensical war. Morever, it is the cost of consumer goods in America that is driving the world market but the fact of the matter is, lawmakers care about the issues that are most pertinent to their lives and who suffers eventually, the people in Haiti and other countries that depend on foreign influx of goods and services to supplement daily living.

I cried when i saw the news.Innocent people have to protest and struggle for food while we have in abundance. Andrew, what ways do you suggest that other countries can help? Can shipping companies charge less on postage to Haiti so that people/organisations can help by sending foodstuffs?

Can the Queen of England help Haiti? The Grand Caymans have over 500 banks and famous for money laundering; however, the Queen earlier stated that they have millions of dollars unclaimed[untraceable] and dont know what to do with it.My suggestion: HELP FEED THE POOR AND NEEDY NOW!!!!!

    No one can help haiti.

Haitians need to repent, to turn to God. Haitians need to stop the worship of other gods.

they need to turn to the God of the Universe. They need to stop their voodoo practices.

Yolande why are you condeming those people?Did God gave you the right to critisize and condem others? Why,because they are poor and struggling you think you are better? They are the children of God too, regardless what they do.Did Adam,Solomon and Samson listen to God?They did not but he forgave them. How much God is there actually?

Got something to say?
