American Airlines bungled safety inspections that prevented fires or fuel tank explosions. The worst airline in my book.

April 9, 2008

Well, I have confirmed my statement about American Airlines being the pits carrier of them all and I sincerely mean that. According to USA TODAY dated 4/9/2008, federal regulators found that American Airlines bungled their inspections that were required to prevent fires or fuel tank explosions. How do you bundle an inspection? This is how… you check a few and planes and pass all of them on the basis of equal randomization. Imagine that! Three hundred American Airline jets were grounded on 4/8/2008 because federal regulators found out and thus 50,000 passengers were displaced. This event comes in light of Southwest Airlines being caught last month for flying jets that did not receive critical safety checks.

As a frequent passenger on these airlines, what should I be thinking? How does a company with the responsibility for thousands of lives every day be overtly irresponsible to the people the serve. The officials in charge at American Airlines should be utterly ashamed of themselves to be in the business that they are in and be fired. I bet when these very officials or their family members have to fly, they make sure the plane in exceptional condition. I applaud the FAA for stepping up and identifying the illegal practices of these Airlines but a little too late. Much damage to the industry has been done. It seems that profits and stockholders come first. Well, in such a business the safety of the people who depend on these airlines must come first. Lets’ not forget TWA Flight 800 over the Long Island Sound and the many past incidences that have occurred in American aviation.

As of right now…American Airlines needs to clean up its’ act and position itself as a reformed and Just carrier with qualitative proofs. As an American, I refuse to fly American Airlines and I hope others will join me when they are thinking of using the skies. There are other options, utilize them. Moreover, this should be a lesson to all airlines that practice in the same manner….the people you serve are the American people. Doing a disservice to them by providing unsafe airplanes actually works to inhibit economic growth and contributes to the economical condition America finds itself in right now.

Andrew, it is extremely unfortunate that American Airlines standards of service has significantly declined over the years. The airlines seem to be doing everything to cut cost to accomodate their promised high profits to their shareholders.

I think the majority of people would rather pay a little extra for better service rather than be inconvenienced (flight delays, lost luggages, bad customer services).

Annand, I know I certainly wouldn’t mind paying a little extra.

Got something to say?
