Sybil’s Bakery - Richmond Hill, New York
March 23, 2008
I particularly like Sybil’s of Richmond Hill. I have sampled most of the restaurants in the area and by far I have found Sybils’ to have the tastiest pastries. In particular, the cheese rolls are the best. The curries and fried foods are also delicious especially the fried rice and Jerk Chicken, I usually have this once a month as treat for attempting to eat healthy all month long.
The worst restaurant I’ve had takeout from was Hibiscus Restaurant on 101 Avenue between 125-126 streets. A few months back I ordered lunch to go and upon opening my meal, I found staples among the fried rice. Go figure! It makes me wonder who is the chef and what are the cooking back there in the kitchen.

Got something to say?

Sybil has been around for a long time. Their prices not too expensive, and their food is good. Everytime you go there you gotta grab a ticket if you want to join the line. I don’t see them going anywhere for a long time.
” I don’t see them going anywhere for a long time.” What do you mean? Clarify?
I think Patrick means they won’t be going out of business anytime soon.
And as for 95% of the foods in Richmond Hill, I agree with Andrew that they are tasty, and they’re good for a once-a-month treat, because they probably use unhealthy oil, lots of salt, and poor or mediocre food preparation techniques. The only way to be certain you’re eating healthy is to prepare things yourself, or to get healthy foods. I can’t really think of anything prepared that can be considered healthy.
Nonetheless, we should all make a conscious effort to eat healthy and treat ourselves every now and again.
You should try their porrige in the mornings, it is the best around..
nice!
Sunil, chances are the are using hydrogenated vegetabke oils which are basically saturated with trans fats…I am quite sure they are not using onounsaturated fats like olive oil and peanut oil…You are so right about it all my friend
Their macaroni pie w/ stew chicken is pretty good.
Their space is way too small though. When they are crowded there’s hardly any room to stand on line much less to sit their an eat. More of a take-out than a sit-in.
Here’s a suggestion..we should find a way as a community to get the foods these local eateries serve to proide nutritional labeling with them…after all it is us they serve…why not have them make it healthier since the number of people doing takeout has significantly increased over the last few years..
What do you think?
Yes, Sunil - that is what I was saying.
Andrew, I’m not too clear on your labeling suggestion. Are you saying we should have these places add a lable to the roti we’re buying? Please clarify.
no,,we should have analytical testing conducted on these products ..for average caloric. fats, and sugars…..these substances are the main cases of high cholesterol and heart attacks,,,Heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S,,,should we not know whats in the roti and curry,,,we are living in a health concious world,,,Well at least man of us are,,..should we not know..
There are food labs all around the metro…that will do this stuff for a few thousand bucks,,,
That’s a good idea! The question is how much of the general population actually care about nutritional facts, and who will fund this?
