Misinformed Individuals Writing for the Guyana Chronicle

March 16, 2008

The following article was published on March 12th 2008 in the Guyana Chronicle. My response to this is: How does something so uninformative published in a national print. I am beginning to conclude that the editors don’t mind retards writing for the print. This type of writing diminishes the little respect that the Guyana Chronicle still harbors.

Better quality health service.

The health sector in Guyana has certainly come a far way. If we are to zero-in on the Georgetown Public Hospital we would see clearly with all the new services they now offer, there is indeed a better quality of service.

Many would criticise the shortcomings of the hospital but we must not be sucked into such propaganda. While it is true that persons from time to time have to wait lengthy periods before they can see a doctor, this situation is not peculiar only to Guyana. This happens even in the developed countries.

In the United States of America the waiting time is about two hours in an emergency room. I do believe the problem we have here is that there is lack of information; hence people feel that government is not meeting their expectations in relation to health care services.

JANELLE JONES

Janelle Jones makes a quantitative comparison to the waiting time for patients at Georgetown Hospital to that of hospitals in the US. First of all, if you walk into any ER in the U.S and complain of heart palpitations of any type of chest pain, you automatically become priority. The point I am making is that emergencies are seen not on a first come first serve basis but on the type of situation that comes in to the ER. Would you want it to be any other way if your loved one was experiencing a life threatening emergency?

Janelle speaks of propaganda, does she realize that her article is propagandistic as it stands. Why, because of being ignorant about the subject. This is not the first instance. I have been reading the Guyana chronicle and Stabroek News and it seems like both of these prints do not question the validity of their supporting authors. Newspaper companies in general need to realize that when misinformation gets printed, it affects the lives of hundreds or even thousands of people because people look to these prints as a qualitative source of information and in many cases it is the only source.

Sharma is more entertainment than news, but at least he tries to represent the people.
