Jagdeo’s Big Plans to Increase Security

February 26, 2008

According to an article published in the Kaieteur news dated 02/20/208, President Jagdeo mentioned that he wants to spend approximately US $25M on purchasing helicopters and additional security.

While this is well and good, history has a way of predicting the future especially in the case of Guyana. What has not been addressed is where are the criminals getting police and Government issue equipment and clothing? Where is Guyana getting the US 25M from and could this process have been started a few years ago? It is not like there has never been a need for better than corrupt policing? Back in the late 80s and early 90s, traffic police in Guyana could have been bought with fried rice from a Chinese restaurant and a chase of beer. It is sad that the security of the country could be bought with some food. What this says to me is that the people are starving and any incentive would help to increase a more meaningful survival.

Why allow the building of a useless Stadium, Jagdeo? Why not use the revenues to build better infrastructures to support a growing nation. President Jagdeo, as the CEO of Guyana, your job is to attract and sell the ability of Guyanese to attract foreign enterprises. Your job is to secure a healthier nation and a happier people. Any CEO with a brain would know that when your employees are happy, they tend to work harder and produce more. It is sad to see that you miserably failed at your job and is continuously failing. Why don’t you return to NY and make another spectacle of your self by dancing like an idiot on stage at the duck curry competition. I am ashamed to say to my colleagues that you are the CEO of my home country.

My advise to you is to appeal to a foreign consultation firm evaluate Guyana and help build a business plan for the next twenty years. I will be more than happy to help in that process if you would wish President Jagdeo.

Increasing security is great, but how about removing the reason for that security also?

Andrew, I agree. If he doesn’t want direct help why not hire consultants to help him make better decisions?

As for the police corruption, it still exists. Corruption exists not only in Guyana’s police system, but other countries as well - it’s everywhere. I think the reason for that is lack of accountability. What is a system without checks and balances or without the enforcement of it?

Annand, the reality of it is that criminal activity will always be a part of any country..People commit criminal acts for no reason sometimes..it is just a part of the psychology of human nature.

Got something to say?
