Commentary on Trinidad Aiding Guyana
February 24, 2008
How is it possible for Trinidad and Tobago to aid Guyana in crime reduction when Trinidad cannot handle its own? It seems like everyday someone gets kidnapped or shot to in Trinidad. The government of Trinidad needs to address this growing problem because anyone who is a foreigner and regards life and wants to visit Trinidad and reads on the current affairs will think very hard and long before opting to go. My visit was pleasant but limited in sight seeing because every morning the Guardian News Paper reported incidences of kidnappings and murders to tourists.
While it is noble of Trinidad to aid Guyana via crime fighting tools, Guyana needs national security and the UN is the only place to get that done. The corrupt police force in Guyana needs a overhaul. These police in Guyana have the wrong focus. Helicopters and bigger guns are not going to solve the problem. A change in priorities is necessary. Guyanese have to learn to love their country and respect the wealth and value it offers. Every man, woman, boy, and girl have to want a better Guyana. But the reality is the executives making the laws are ignorant to the needs of the people.
Trinidad aiding Guyana is like the blind leading the blind.

Got something to say?

The blind leading the blind - yes, definitely. But at least Trinidad is the only country offering any kind of help right now. And while Trinidad offers help, is the president of Guyana even asking for assistance or is his ego blinding his ability to make better decisions for his country?
